Market Express is the convenience store division of Brewer Hendley Oil Company. Established in 1988, we have a long history of providing exceptional service, high quality of products, and operating with the utmost integrity. We provide Shell and Exxon fuels at our locations throughout both of the Carolinas. We emphasize the need for friendly service while providing first class products and cleanliness both inside and outside of our properties.
We currently operate fourteen stores which provide services such as ATM’s WiFi, Java Jeff’s Gourmet Coffee, Laserwash/Touch-free carwashes, plus much more. We also partner with several well-established food partners to provide our customers with many food options. These partnerships include Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Subway, Rock Store BBQ, Aroma’s Pizza, Market Deli, and more.
Market Express’ goal is to provide our customers with fuel, food, and amenities they want and need all while serving them with a courteous smile. Our Leadership Team
Buddy Brewer, President
Buddy Brewer is a lifelong native of Union County and has worked closely in developing Brewer-Hendley’s convenience store chain over the last 30 years. He has helped develop and grow the chain to (14) high volume locations, which operate under the name of Market Express and span from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach, S.C. He is in charge of growth and operations of this integral part of the business. Buddy also assists in overseeing and managing the 35+ dealer locations that BHOC supplies and maintains.
Buddy also developed and is the co-owner of Brewer-Baucom Properties, which builds, leases, and manages both commercial and residential properties in Union County.
Buddy holds a BA in Economics from East Carolina University. He also holds his N.C. Real Estate Brokerage License. His community and association involvement have included: NCPCMA Board, Healthquest of Union County Board, Union Academy Foundation Board, Friends of Scouting Campaign, United Way Board, Rolling Hills Country Club Board, and the Indian Trail Professional Park Board.
Buddy and his wife, Cissy reside in Wesley Chapel, along with their three children, Will (23), Callie (21), and Emma (18). He enjoys spending time with his family at Litchfield Beach, Pirate and Panther football games, and golfing on the weekends.
John Valeri, Director of Operations
John joined Market Express in 1999 bringing with him experience in grocery store, soft drink, and construction industries. He currently overseas the operations of the 14 corporate locations, as well as new store and remodel construction. He is the buyer of all categories including cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol, soft drinks and other categories. He also oversees IT, Networking and Point of Sale at the corporate locations. John continues to broaden his knowledge of the industry by participating in numerous trade shows, seminars, and industry related events that further enhance his management skillset. John is an avid golfer and can be found on a course any chance he gets. He also loves spending time with wife Pam, the kids and grandkids.
Jay Sergio, Food Service Director
Jay is a recent transplant to Charlotte from the Washington DC area, having lived in Northern Virginia and worked in the restaurant industry for almost 30 years. He helped open several different restaurants, working various capacities from assistant manager, general manager and district manager. He joined Brewer-Hendley/Market Express in May of 2018 helping with food service in our stores. He oversees food service as well as hot, cold, and frozen dispensed beverages in the stores, and helps them maintain profitability. There are currently 5 stores that have a deli in them, ranging from roller-grills to sub sandwiches to fried chicken.
Jay holds a BS in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. He loves spending time with his family, happily married to Ellyn, since 1989, both kids are married and 2nd grandchild on the way. He loves to golf, but loves getting out, enjoying the course, and spending time with friends. He spends time volunteering with the Charlotte Rescue Mission, a Christian-based rehab facility, cooking meals with other members from his church. He is also the liaison from his church to the Community Matters Café, a job / life skills restaurant that employs graduates of the Charlotte Rescue Mission. He is an avid Alabama Fan – ROLL TIDE!
